News Reporters Without Borders voiced alarm today at the Chinese government’s announced intention to close down all China-based websites and blogs that are not officially registered. The plan is all the more worrying as the government has also revealed that it has a new system for monitoring sites in real time and spotting those that fail to comply.”The Chinese authorities use this type of announcement above all to intimidate website operators and bloggers,” the press freedom organisation said. “The authorities also hope to push the most outspoken online sites to migrate abroad where they will become inaccessible to those inside China because of the Chinese filtering systems.”Reporters Without Borders added: “Those who continue to publish under their real names on sites hosted in China will either have to avoid political subjects or just relay the Communist Party’s propaganda. This decision will enable those in power to control online news and information much more effectively.”The new initiative was announced in a decree issued by the ministry for the information industry (MII) on 20 March, which said all China-based websites – commercial or otherwise – would have to register by 30 June, giving the complete identity of the persons responsible for the sites. According to the authorities, the aim is to control information that “endanger the country.”According to official figures, about 75 per cent of Chinese sites have already complied with the new procedure. The Russian news agency Interfax reported that the ministry subsequently announced that a new system called “Night Crawler” (Pa Chong, in Chinese) that allows the authorities to locate and block unregistered sites would get under away at the start of June.At the request of the authorities, the Telecom operators that host the biggest Chinese news portals informed their users that this procedure is obligatory. In May, many bloggers received e-mail messages telling them to register to avoid their blogs being declared illegal.A China-based blogger told Reporters Without Borders on condition of anonymity that the Shanghai police recently rendered his website inaccessible because it had not been registered. He then phoned the MII to ask what he had to do in order to register, and was told that in his case it was “not worth bothering” because “there was no chance of an independent blog getting permission to publish.” News News March 12, 2021 Find out more Reporters Without Borders voiced alarm today at the Chinese government’s announced intention to close down all China-based websites and blogs that are not officially registered. Members of the Mica Action Group (MAG) have urged the government to start the roll-out of the highly anticipated redress scheme to enable repair of the homes of those affected by the defective blocks issue across the county. The announcement comes as homeowners await details on how a €20million investment, which was announced earlier this year, will be used on a redress scheme. On Tuesday, Minister Joe McHugh said that a ‘special funding pot’ of €40million will be set aside in 2020 for the fixing of homes affected by both Mica and Pyrite. However, MAG believes that this is not nearly enough to get all of the homes fixed; where government estimates put the number of those affected to be in the region of 5000 homes.Ann Owens Chairperson of the MAG said: “Over the course of the last number of months, MAG asked the Department of Housing for a significant increase in the Budget for 2020 to enable work to get underway to fix the homes of those affected by the mica issue.“With the allocation of an additional twenty-million euro, our initial thoughts were that this was not nearly enough to fix all of the homes affected.“However, we have sought clarity on this issue and today received confirmation that should this money be spent throughout 2020, we are in position to seek further drawdown of funds from the Department of Housing to continue this work over the course of this year. “This is what happened in the case of Pyrite and Minister Damien English has confirmed MAG are in position to seek the same treatment to apply to homeowners in Donegal.“Currently we have over 1400 homeowners registered with MAG, however, we believe the number to be significantly larger than this.“It is imperative that affected homeowners continue to register in order for us to continue to exert pressure on government and to illustrate the huge scale of this problem.“Importantly, the level of the Budget allocated becomes significant only when the actual scheme is opened. Last week it was one year since we received the news that redress was approved by Cabinet.“It is very disappointing and frustrating therefore to think that a year on we are still effectively no further forward and few details of the scheme have been provided and importantly the applications process is still not open. “It is time to give this issue the urgency it deserves. We have had enough procrastination and delay and quite honestly homeowners are at the end of their tether.“On a daily basis, we are contacted by homeowners who tell us how their homes are deteriorating at an alarming rate. Over the weekend one of these families posted a video on our Facebook page showing the blocks in such bad condition now that they simply disintegrate in the home owner’s hands.“This situation is a catastrophe waiting to happen and the Government is putting homeowners lives at risk and in an impossible position as they have nowhere else to go.“There is no single bigger issue than this in the county at the minute and it is time that those tasked with finalising this scheme and with its roll-out, treated this with the immediate action it deserves. “We, therefore, call on the Department of Housing and Donegal County Council to stop pointing the finger at each other and to just get on with the job of getting the homes of families who are desperately affected by this issue, fixed as soon as possible.”“Get on with the job” – Mica Action Group urges govt to give redress scheme ‘ urgency it deserves’ was last modified: October 14th, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)

It was in the end. There was a lot of confusion and a lot of things were up in the air. The decision was made and that was the situation, so I had to look at other options. “Arsenal are going through a transitional period at the moment. They have many great players and a lot of talent coming through. They are definitely going in the right direction – but my situation now is at Juventus. I have an unbelievable opportunity at a massive club. “I just want to be part of this now. Hopefully I can help my team-mates and my club achieve some great things on the big stage.”
Five to go: Spurs to sell stars – including Dierby Paul Vegas17 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveEric Dier is to be transfer-listed by Tottenham in January, it has been revealed. The Times says Dier will be joined by Christian Eriksen, Danny Rose, Serge Aurier and Victor Wanyama on the list with a mid-season shake-up seemingly on the agenda. Tottenham went into the international break in miserable circumstances after conceding 10 goals in two games with the 3-0 defeat by Brighton following the 7-2 demolition by Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Dier has struggled for minutes this season following the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele and has featured just three times. England team-mate Harry Winks appears to be the preferred option alongside Ndombele and so Dier has been forced to take a peripheral role so far. With a lack of involvement the report details how Pochettino is willing to sell Dier and some of his misfiring team-mates in a bid to freshen up the ailing squad.
