Southampton struggled to get a foothold in the game after they were reduced to 10 men when winger Moussa Djenepo made a reckless challenge to get sent off in the 28th minute. Djenepo was initially booked when he caught Isaac Hayden above the ankle but the Video Assistant Referee advised referee Graham Scott to take a second look on the pitchside monitor, after which a red card was produced. Southampton were nearly undone just before halftime when Sofiane Boufal used his upper arm to clear the ball inside the box, awarding Newcastle their first penalty of the season, but Alex McCarthy dived to his left to stop Matt Ritchie’s effort. With Southampton a man down, it was down to McCarthy to deny the Newcastle players on numerous occasions — particularly Dwight Gayle who had three shots on target blocked — and the goalkeeper finished the first half with six saves. But McCarthy could do nothing when Saint-Maximin pressed Yan Valery, pinched the ball from his fellow Frenchman and then toe-poked the ball off the post for his second goal of the season to give Newcastle their first league win since January.Tags: Allan Saint-MaximinIsaac HaydenMatt RitchieNewcastle United

Members of the Mica Action Group (MAG) have urged the government to start the roll-out of the highly anticipated redress scheme to enable repair of the homes of those affected by the defective blocks issue across the county. The announcement comes as homeowners await details on how a €20million investment, which was announced earlier this year, will be used on a redress scheme. On Tuesday, Minister Joe McHugh said that a ‘special funding pot’ of €40million will be set aside in 2020 for the fixing of homes affected by both Mica and Pyrite. However, MAG believes that this is not nearly enough to get all of the homes fixed; where government estimates put the number of those affected to be in the region of 5000 homes.Ann Owens Chairperson of the MAG said: “Over the course of the last number of months, MAG asked the Department of Housing for a significant increase in the Budget for 2020 to enable work to get underway to fix the homes of those affected by the mica issue.“With the allocation of an additional twenty-million euro, our initial thoughts were that this was not nearly enough to fix all of the homes affected.“However, we have sought clarity on this issue and today received confirmation that should this money be spent throughout 2020, we are in position to seek further drawdown of funds from the Department of Housing to continue this work over the course of this year. “This is what happened in the case of Pyrite and Minister Damien English has confirmed MAG are in position to seek the same treatment to apply to homeowners in Donegal.“Currently we have over 1400 homeowners registered with MAG, however, we believe the number to be significantly larger than this.“It is imperative that affected homeowners continue to register in order for us to continue to exert pressure on government and to illustrate the huge scale of this problem.“Importantly, the level of the Budget allocated becomes significant only when the actual scheme is opened. Last week it was one year since we received the news that redress was approved by Cabinet.“It is very disappointing and frustrating therefore to think that a year on we are still effectively no further forward and few details of the scheme have been provided and importantly the applications process is still not open. “It is time to give this issue the urgency it deserves. We have had enough procrastination and delay and quite honestly homeowners are at the end of their tether.“On a daily basis, we are contacted by homeowners who tell us how their homes are deteriorating at an alarming rate. Over the weekend one of these families posted a video on our Facebook page showing the blocks in such bad condition now that they simply disintegrate in the home owner’s hands.“This situation is a catastrophe waiting to happen and the Government is putting homeowners lives at risk and in an impossible position as they have nowhere else to go.“There is no single bigger issue than this in the county at the minute and it is time that those tasked with finalising this scheme and with its roll-out, treated this with the immediate action it deserves. “We, therefore, call on the Department of Housing and Donegal County Council to stop pointing the finger at each other and to just get on with the job of getting the homes of families who are desperately affected by this issue, fixed as soon as possible.”“Get on with the job” – Mica Action Group urges govt to give redress scheme ‘ urgency it deserves’ was last modified: October 14th, 2019 by Shaun KeenanShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest In a big victory for the U.S. pork industry, Peru has agreed to eliminate trichinae testing requirements on chilled U.S. pork based on a U.S. Department of Agriculture certification that the pork originated from Pork Quality Assurance Plus farms. PQA Plus is an education and training program run by the National Pork Board that certifies that hog operations are meeting their commitments related to animal well-being, food safety, worker safety and environmental protection.NPPC worked closely with U.S. and Peruvian officials for many years to eliminate the testing, which artificially raises the cost of selling chilled pork in the South American country. The risk of getting trichinae from consuming U.S. pork is less than 1 in 300,000,000. Peru’s U.S. pork imports increased significantly after the U.S.-Peru Free Trade Agreement was implemented in 2009, jumping from just $650,000 in 2008 to more than $6.7 million in 2014. Based on analysis conducted by Iowa State University economist Dermot Hayes, National Pork Producers Council expects pork exports to Peru to grow even more now that the trichinae testing requirement has been eliminated.
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Life is not all about “me.” Life is about serving others — not ourselves — and agriculture has a unique way of teaching this key value. An attitude of service always seems to be a bit more prevalent in rural agricultural areas (at least to me). The act of caring for the soil, tending to animals and producing products for others on the farm has a way of weaving itself into your moral code and instilling a willingness to serve others. My wife and I are already trying to use lessons on the farm to teach our young children about the value of service to others. With this in mind, I tried to involve both of our children in the Operation Evergreen program this year. Each year to commemorate Veteran’s Day, veterans come out to our family Christmas tree farm and select trees that will be sent to troops overseas with the hope of providing a bit of holiday cheer so far from home. It combines two important holidays that highlight the value and importance of an attitude of service.Area veterans select Christmas trees from the farm to cut for the program. Local elementary students, high school students and community groups also visited the farm to present the ornaments they have made to the veterans. There were nearly 3,000 ornaments brought to the farm.Among those veterans who visit the farm is my grandpa Frank Deeds, who served in World War II in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. It is hard for me to comprehend what grandpa went through as a young man those many years ago and it is vital that we show him, and the rest of the veterans who have sacrificed so much through the years, our appreciation. Hopefully I can learn from grandpa’s example of service and my children can learn from me.The trees and ornaments from Christmas tree farms around the state go to the Ohio Department of Agriculture where they will be inspected this week, shipped to Kuwait and then on to wherever else U.S. troops are serving. The Operation Evergreen program was started in Ohio in 1995 to bring a little Christmas cheer to military personnel serving overseas. This Ohio Christmas Tree Association project has grown from 30 trees the first year to over 300 in recent years. All of the trees, boxes, ornaments, tree stands, packaging and assembly, transportation and shipping overseas are donated. And, while corporate funding has covered the high shipping costs in the past, the OCTA is covering (and seeking donations for) the shipping. For more on Operation Evergreen, contact Amy Galehouse at Galehouse Tree Farms at 330-658-2480 or [email protected] or the OCTA office at 740-828-3331 or [email protected]
Here’s a few tips for translating your creative vision to the big screen.Have you taken a film or video project from conception to completion…only to find yourself unsatisfied with the end result? Here’s a few reasons your projects may be falling flat.1. You Focusing on the Details, Not the Big PictureWhen it comes to filmmaking there is a lot to remember and we are afforded the opportunity to learn something new every time we shoot. In a way, creating a film is a lot like a flexible checklist. While you would never say it out loud, the thought that’s probably going through your head on-set is something to the effect of:Composition, Check.Depth of Field, Check.Continuity, Check.Stabilization, Check.Focus, Check.Actor’s Delivery, Check.Motivation, Check.Etc, Etc, Etc, Check, Check, CheckIt can be easy to compartmentalize the production process and fall into a series of checklists, but this can be extremely harmful to your end result. The beauty is not in the details, it’s in the finished project. If you’re busy focusing on small stuff like script formatting, and not the script itself, you’re going to be disappointed.2. You’re Putting to Much Emphasis on the Craft Instead of the StoryWe talk a lot about gear here on the PremiumBeat blog and rightfully so, it’s fun to follow gear. New cameras, lenses, and equipment releases are exciting. But one rut that new filmmakers tend to fall into is focusing way to heavily on the gear and not the story at hand.Sure having an impressive 2 minute long tracking shot is cool, but how does it fit into your narrative structure? Have you spent more time focusing on the gear than the characters in the film?Having cinematic quality footage is important for keeping your audience engaged, especially if you are trying to prove your legitimacy, but we live in an age of progressing technology. If you want your film to have real staying power, focus more on the story. It’s easy to forgive a film with average cinematography if the story is solid.3. It Wasn’t Feasible Given Your ConstraintsIn a perfect world you can simply come up with any idea and have the tools available to see that idea through. Realistically there are many limitations to an indie-film budget. Recognizing these limitations, and creatively working around them, is vital for creating a believable film.Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Sure, you should push your creative limits every time you make a film, but have reason when considering a new idea. This is a tough pill to swallow especially if you are a passionate filmmaker, but setting unrealistic expectations will only leave you disappointed.4. You’re Not Hiring the Right CrewHaving a solid crew is vital for creating a good film. If you are forced to pick up the slack from other crew members it’s going to show in your end result. One of the biggest things to look for when choosing a crew is attitude. It’s not uncommon in this industry to work with people with pride issues. Avoid them like the plague! Ultimately poor crew members will distract you from the story at hand. To learn more about this check out our ‘Traits of a Good Crew Member’ post.5. You’re Not Communicating WellCommunication is your most powerful tool as a filmmaker. How well your creative vision comes to life depends in large part with how well it is communicated to your talent and crew before, during and after production. Spend the time before the camera rolls to make sure that everyone involved is ‘in-the-know’….and this isn’t just limited to just the story and how you invision the final product. Communication around the logistics of production can make or break your project. Use a call sheet, use a camera log, and stay organized.6. You’re Skipping Over Pre-ProductionThere’s nothing sexy about pre-production – except storyboarding (I love a good storyboard!). It can be easy for filmmakers to skip over this aspect of the filmmaking process and into production. Create a detailed shot list, storyboard scenes if necessary, set realistic production timelines and finalize your budget.Take the time to personally visit all the locations you’re planning on shooting. Did you obtain any necessary permits or forms to shoot at that location? What is the lighting situation? Where is power located? You must know these things well in advance of your proposed shoot date to allow time for change of location if necessary.7. Your Creative Vision is MuddyIs your idea fully baked? It’s easy to fall in love with a story idea, but you need to validate it early. How well vetted is your script? Is the story confusing in any way? If you’re too close to the project and story you may not recognize it’s weaknesses. Seek brutally honest feedback.Successful filmmaking is collaborative filmmaking….nobody wants to work with a dictator. Settle on a vision early and then have others poke holes in it, finding flaws with the story, the production plan and the overall vision. Revise the plan and repeat. Your creative vision may not be the same as it was when you started, but you’ll be the better for it.Want more creative inspiration? The much anticipated Cabinet makeover brought in it’s wake a few surprises, some disappointments and the usual chorus of disapproval from the Opposition. In a rejig which saw Manmohan Singh incorporate 17 new faces in his Council of Ministers, many see the imprint of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘young brigade’ mantra.Young or not, the reshuffle has definitely raised the fortunes of some of Team Rahul’s acolytes. The biggest takeaway from the reshuffle is that people who have supported the Congress through the tumultous push towards economic reforms have gained the most. Also, the Congress seems to have send out a strong message that corruption charges arising from the street (read Arvind Kejriwal) will not dictate governance tactics and the biggest gainer of this has undoubtedly been Salman Khurshid. Here’s a look at the names whose political fortunes are on the upswing after Sunday’s facelift.Salman KhurshidThe biggest gainer, of course, is Salman Khurshid who has now joined the elite club with the highly coveted Foreign Minister tag. The shift gains significance in light of the fact that the esrtwhile law minister was recently in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, including the sting, Operation Dhritarashtra, accusing him of corruption.Pawan BansalAnother massive upgrade is the elevation of Pawan Bansal – Parliamentary Affairs and Water Resources – who has been handed the plum Railways portfolio. The move gains significance in light of the fact that the railways portfolio has traditionally been given to one of the constituent allies of the UPA. Bansal, who is known to be a close associate of Finance Minister P Chaidamabaram, is expected to speed up the pace of railways reforms which have been subject to highly populist and regressive policies over the past several years.Veerappa Moily Already a Cabinet Minister Veerappa Moily (Corporate Affairs) has now been handed the crucial and sensitive Petroleum Ministry, taking over from Jaipal Reddy. The idea is that Moily will speed up the decision making process as opposed to his predecessor who was accused of blocking the government’s policies. The move can be interpreted as a huge gain since Moily, for his seniority, had been pretty much sidelined after he lost his previous portfolio of the Law Ministry to Khurshid.advertisement Ashwini KumarOne of the biggest suprises and consequently one of the biggest gainers is Ashwini Kumar. A Minister of State, he is now a full fledged Cabinet Minister taking over from Salman Khurshid as the Law Minister. A massive jump in profile for a man who is known to be extremely articulate and immensely supportive of Manmohan Singh’s vision for UPA. MM Pallam Raju The erstwhile Minister of State for Defence has now been handed the crucial and controvery laden Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, taking over from Kapil Sibal. Sources say the move is aimed at rewarding Raju’s loaylty to the Congress clan as well as bringing in a relatively non confrontational politican in place of the verbally acrid Sibal. Ajay Maken The current Sports Minister has been promoted to a Cabinet rank with the Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation portfolio in a move many see as a counter to Sheila Dikshit’s stronghold in the Capital. His new portfolio is one of the most important in terms of the Congress and UPA’a electoral influence in the coming General Elections 2014.

AUSTIN, TX – SEPTEMBER 22: A general view taken during the game between the Texas Longhorns and the Rice Owls on September 22, 2007 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. Texas won 58-14. (Photo by Brian Bahr/Getty Images)Texas is destroying No. 12 Baylor, 17-0, after the first quarter. The score is ugly, but not as ugly as the bench-clearing incident which just occurred. After Baylor reserve quarterback Lynx Hawthorne tossed an interception, the red-shirt junior chased down Texas DB Duke Thomas, who recorded the pick. Hawthorne slammed Thomas down near the Longhorns’ sideline, and some UT players took offense. In the videos below, you can see Texas safety Kevin Vaccaro (No. 18 in white) leave the bench and fall on top of Hawthorne. This resulted in a 15-yard penalty, but more significantly, served as the beginning of all hell breaking loose.Baylor players sprinted from the far sideline to join the fray. While it didn’t look like any punches were thrown, the two teams did scuffle and trade a lot of angry words. Some players had to be held back. 18 off the bench for Texas & PJ Locke shoving QB down after play standing over him.
