Blackwell’s bookshop has reopened

first_imgThe Oxford bookshop, which celebrates its 141styear in 2020, has been closed since the lockdown began at the end of March. Books that have been touched while browsing are beingquarantined and sanitized, and Perspex screens have been set up at the tillsand enquiry points. Blackwell’s have also changed the layout of the shop toallow for browsing at a safe distance and hand sanitizer is available to allcustomers. Assistant manager Charlie Bush said: “While our shops havebeen closed, our excellent online bookshop has been sending thousands of booksout to customers – regular and new – to keep them reading even thought theycan’t visit us in person.  “That service withfree postage goes on but we are delighted that lots of booklovers have been into browse and buy books today, our first day open again in bricks and mortar. center_img Openingtimes for the Broad Street branch are Monday to Saturday from 10am until 6pm,and Sunday 11am until 5pm. The Westgate branch is still closed. New safety measures to reduce the risk of transmission of Covid-19 are being used in the store to protect shoppers and booksellers. This includes physical distancing in the shop, one-way systems, and having a maximum capacity. Suicide attempt at charter school in Jersey City

first_imgJERSEY CITY – A 13-year-old student allegedly tried to attempt suicide in the bathroom at Beloved Charter School on Jan. 21 according to Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, spokesperson for the Jersey City Department of Public Safety.Wallace-Scalcione said Jersey City police officers responded to the school at 508 Grand St. at about 2 p.m. on the report of an attempted suicide.“A school official advised police of a 13-year-old student who had attempted to harm herself in the girl’s bathroom,” she said. “The student was conscious and talking when she was taken by ambulance to the Jersey City Medical Center.”The suicide attempt follows a series of reports concerning suicides that have taken place as the Hudson County Correctional Facility, and the murder of an 18-year-old Jersey City high school student this week.last_img read more
