Aldrin is a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, and widely recognized as a space exploration advocate. His career included commanding NASA’s Dryden Test Flight School at Edwards Air Force Base. “It is an honor to be able to bring such a distinguished American hero to Lancaster as part of our fourth annual Aerospace Appreciation Night,” JetHawks General Manager Brad Seymour said. “Those of us in the Antelope Valley owe a lot to the entire aerospace industry and celebrating that field with an event such as this one is a wonderful thing for our fans and our entire community.” LANCASTER – The JetHawks later this summer will honor an aerospace giant with local ties. Buzz Aldrin, who made aerospace history in 1969, joining Neil Armstrong as the first two men to walk on the moon, will appear Aug. 25 at the JetHawks Aerospace Appreciation Night, when Lancaster plays host to the Stockton Ports. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive commemorative Aldrin bobbleheads that feature the astronaut wearing a reproduction of the spacesuit he had on during his moon walk. Aldrin will participate in a pregame ceremony that will include a video presentation highlighting his career. “We are proud to not only pay tribute to the incredible history of this community, but also create an educational experience for fans in attendance during this game.” [email protected] (661) 267-7802160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong.
