Legendary athlete Milkha Singh has expressed bitterness about the treatment meted out to him during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games (CWG) on Sunday. Milkha was apparently ignored by the Games organisers when he arrived for the ceremony as a special invitee. The athlete, who is fondly called the ‘Flying Sikh’, was denied a seat in the VIP enclosure where the other special guests were seated. Instead, he was given a place in the ordinary seating area after entry from gate no. 14 of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Milkha told Headlines Today that if sportsmen from the past weren’t respected, the future of young sportsmen was in doubt. Milkha said he did not know if he would be treated the same way during the CWG closing ceremony.
